Shri Vruksha

Atmospheric CO₂ sequestration measurement

Origin & History

The carbon layer, decoded.

Vruksha (वृक्ष) means 'tree' — the original CO₂ scrubber. With India committing to net-zero by 2070 and 26 million ha of degraded land available for restoration, Shri Vruksha operationalises the Bonn Challenge and India's NDC pledge. Built on flux-tower methodology pioneered at ICRAF Bengaluru, it quantifies sequestration at sub-acre resolution.

The Science

Above-ground biomass is estimated from allometric equations + drone LiDAR canopy height models. Below-ground SOC is sampled per the Sanchay protocol. Net carbon flux = ΔBiomass + ΔSOC − farm-gate emissions (fuel, fertiliser embedded carbon). Verra-grade MRV report exportable to carbon registries.

Crop Applications

How Shri Vruksha shows up in the field.

Each crop responds differently to carbon-layer intelligence. Validated across ICAR + state agri university pilots.

Bamboo

Bamboo

Sequesters 10–25 tCO₂/ha/yr — fastest land-based scrubber.

Subabul + Cane

Subabul + Cane

Boundary agroforestry: 18 tCO₂e/ha over 5-year cycle.

Mango Orchards

Mango Orchards

30-year mango orchard locks 120 tC/ha cumulatively.

Coconut

Coconut

Kerala backwater agroforestry: 8 tCO₂/ha/yr.

Practices across States

Crop × state ground-truth deployments.

How Shri Vruksha is being practised today — drawn from state agriculture department programmes, ICAR institutes and CIDSA field partners.

Karnataka

Crop: Agroforestry

Krishi Aranya Protsaha Yojane subsidies; Vruksha provides MRV for carbon-pay schemes.

Uttarakhand

Crop: Pine + Oak

Van Panchayat carbon stocking; Vruksha integrates with FSI biomass maps.

Tripura

Crop: Bamboo

State-supported bamboo + agroforestry mosaic — Vruksha quantifies CO₂ at acre level.

Maharashtra

Crop: Sugarcane

Pune district trial — Vruksha-verified SOC + biomass credits issued to FPOs.

Farmer Benefits

What the farmer takes home.

Shri Vruksha translates field intelligence into bankable, measurable, daily outcomes — without locking the farmer into proprietary inputs.

Tradable carbon credits unlock ₹3,000–7,500/ha/yr extra income

Compliance-ready MRV for EU CBAM + corporate offset buyers

Co-benefits: biodiversity, microclimate cooling, fodder

Climate-resilient farm portfolio for FPOs
